Alaska Is...

       Alaska is the place where the true wonders of life become reality.  Where you realize that the most amazing thing you will ever see may be around the next corner.  Where you remember that all that really matters is friends, family, and the beauty around you.

Final Reflections

         Will I
Last day in Alaska, struggling with the conflict between wanting to be home and not wanting to leave. As we pull away from the church in Palmer I wonder will I ever see this again. Will I ever orcas again or, Denali, Sea Otters, whales, bears, glaciers, Mossy… will I ever feel the joy of seeing Denali with my daughter? Will I see it again and not recognize it? Already there are changes and not for the better. Since I was here in 2002 Princess has put up a hotel and spoiled the view near Denali.  There are more malls, McDonalds, and tour busses. The same forces are at work that brought the pipeline and the oil spill. Will I ever want to come to Alaska again? Will Alaska become just another everywhere else- they paved paradise and put up a princess hotel. Will I get to see my son change and grow the way my daughter has, what a joy to see her blossom like the Forget-Me-Not.
