Climbing Mt. Healy by Matt C. and Laura M

Today we climbed MT. Healy. As we started out everyone was excited and energetic and ready to tackle the task of climbing the beast that is MT. Healy. It was easy going for the first hour or so but then it started getting steeper and the path got more narrow. After a while of non stop hiking with some occasional stopping for water and a break, my group started to sing because we were getting bored and we wanted something to do. We sang some Journey music and some Adele and even some Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!!!!! The only thing keeping us all going was the thought of food and of the cool breeze that we heard was up there. That was what motivated my group (group 1) to encourage each other to get up there and we worked together. We all helped each other up the hard parts that were very rocky or slippery. At one point someone had given up but we didn’t let her quit. We helped her and I was proud of our group and how we never gave up.

I really didn’t sweat that much I have know idea why I didn’t sweat but I just didn’t and I wasn’t the only one either because I asked around and other people were also wondering why we didn’t sweat. The answer to that is that because the air is so dry that it sucks up all the moisture in the air. As we got higher up the mountain we saw less trees and more low shrubs and other plants, it also got more rocky and harder to walk. At one point we were literally on a cliff and walking on like a two foot wide path and when you looked over the edge it was so breath taking! Every where you looked you saw mountains and rivers and trees , it was so beautiful! There is not words to describe it! I wish you could all be here with us to experience this with us!!!

When we finished climbing the mountain the view was even better!!! If any of you have ever climbed a mountain you know what I’m talking about!! On the top of the mountain we took our AGLP picture where we all get into the letters that spell AGLP. We turn those into post cards and send them to people. But this year we also took another picture. This picture was for a kid named Max Buzzell. He died a few days ago and we took a picture with us spelling his name out and we all held out hand hearts. We took that picture to let his family know that we are thinking of them.

That morning before we left we all packed sack lunches of sandwiches and chips and a juice box. Healthy right?? We took the lunches up the mountain and ate them after we had reached the top. After we had eaten and taken enough pictures,  we started the hike down the mountain. For me the trip down was harder than the trip up because we had to hold ourselves up and go slow so we didn’t break an ankle.

Over all, climbing the mountain was all we could have hoped for and more!! We all wish you could be here and we miss our friends and family and we love you!!! Bye!! See you when we get back everyone!!!
