The Festival by Matthew C

Today we packed up the vans and took down the tents and headed to the Solstice Festival in downtown Fairbanks. We arrived at the festival around noon and left around three. The festival was a lot like the fair but had a large lack of animals. It also had more food stands and more junk sellers.

When we arrived there it was very loud and hot; a sign said it was around ninety degrees. It was also very crowded and hard to move and when you were walking around with your friends and you lost them there was really no finding them, that’s how crowded it was. We just got to walk and look around and had a lot of fun. There was a lot of very yummy food, which I personally enjoyed, including a hot dog wrapped in a deep fried potato. I didn’t try it but I was told it was very good. There was also a bouncy castle and other kiddy games. Everything there was extremely over priced so not a lot of people bought anything.

After the festival we got back into the vans and headed out to Denali. The van ride was longer than I remembered and it might have been because I had already seen the scenery. There was some wildfires on the way and the smoke almost blacked out the sun it was so thick!!!! The fires were caused by the storm the night before. We arrived in Denali around six, ate dinner, and had hug time and then went to bed. We all miss you and can’t wait to see you!!! Goodbye!!

Midnight Sun Festival by Landrie L

This morning was a very relaxing morning for everyone. We were allowed to sleep in since the Sun Run last night kind of drained us all. I think it is safe to say that everyone was pretty sore when we got up, and when we took the tents down we were all in slow mode. At around noon we got in the vans and drove to the Midnight Sun Festival. I think everyone enjoyed spending some time there. They had a lot of stands up selling food and souvenirs and little shops you could go into. Plus they had a few bands come in and play for everyone. My favorite place we went to was the Fudge Shop because their smoothies were amazing! When everyone was finished looking around, we got in the vans and started driving back to the campsite in Denali. On the way there, we drove past a forest fire that had been accidentally started. It was kind of interesting because the smoke in the sky was so thick that in places, it blocked out the sun, but at the same time it was a little sad. When we arrived at the campsite we set up our tents again and settled in. The rest of the night was chilly, we did some journaling, had dinner, did hug time, and then went to bed.
