A Very Busy Day by Landrie L

Today was a really crazy day for everyone. Wake up time was seven this morning and we bundled up in some warm clothes, since we were going to hike Exit Glacier. Not the actual glacier, but the mountain right next to the glacier. The forecast wasn’t expected to be that great, so we were all prepared for some rain, but it turned out to be a beautiful day. The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze and we didn’t feel one drop of rain. That made our hike on the way up a lot easier. I think that this hike was my favorite of all of them because it wasn’t that difficult, which let you enjoy what was around us. We saw some really cool little creeks all along the trail and when we got closer to the top we even ran into some snow! We saw some really amazing views of the glacier when we got higher up. Its amazing how small a glacier looks from far away but when you get closer its so huge! After our hike was over, everyone went to the salmon weir. They showed us how they captured the fish going upstream and them separated them by gender. The females all got tagged and then a vaccination for kidney disease. We all got the opportunity to try each of the jobs, which I thought was really fun! Then next we went to the Alaska SeaLife Center, which was pretty much like an aquarium. We saw a lot of interesting fish, sea lions, harbor seals, and native birds. By the time we were finished there, everyone was pretty tired and hungry, so we went back to camp and had some really good chicken soup! The rest of the night was spent downtown where we had some time to shop around and then take our showers. Finally! We all were really happy about that!
