Alaska Is

Alaska is more amazing than my daughters told me! Every year my daughters tell me what a wonderful time they had, about the sights they saw and adventures they had. This is my year and so far the adventure is so much more than I expected. I have accomplished things in my adult life that I never dreamed of. Hiking to the top of mountains, running a 10k and now I can’t wait for this adventure to continue. Even camping and sleeping in a tent is not so bad.

Final Reflections

It is hard to believe that three and a half weeks could go by so fast and all that I learned and accomplished during this time.  I went from thinking that I could not stand sleeping in a tent to – it’s no so bad and a lot of fun when you have great roomies!  I ran a 10K; climbed the Butte (twice); climbed Mt. Healy and Exit Glacier.  Fished for Halibut with five other participants and caught two nice ones to bring back to dinner (we each brought back two fish); I gained more knowledge of Alaskan plants and trees than I ever thought possible; the sea life that I saw and learned about was amazing and the wild life moose, bears, lynx, goats, eagles and a wolf that we saw.  No matter where we went I never got tired of looking at the mountains.  The new friends that I have made and my Alaskan family; well there are no words to say how special they have become to me.

It was such a great feeling to make it to the top of our many climbs, but getting close to the top and having the participants cheering us on and then seeing the expressions on some of their faces as they made it to the top was priceless.  Ishtar waits until the end for our visit to Hatcher’s Pass, as it is his favorite place. Now I understand why; it is breath-taking as most of this trip has been.
