What made us want to go to Alaska was the aspect of going there. For Laura she wanted to go to Alaska in a different way other than going as a trip. She explains that she would like to learn more about leadership. Jazmin said that she would like to go because it would open up more doors for a future and allow her to get along with people she doesn’t normally get to talk to. That is what made us want to go to Alaska!

Alaska Fundraising by Landrie L and Sydney B

For the past couple of months our fellow Alaska participants have been working very hard to raise money to help fund our upcoming Alaska Great Lakes Trip. We have held many fundraisers which included a pancake breakfast, sub sandwich sale, and a bowling night.

At the pancake breakfast many of our community members came to support us by buying breakfast and then having us serve it to them. We had pancakes (of course!), sausage and scrambled eggs. I really enjoyed meeting some new peoplegoing with us on the trip, and getting to talking with the customers.

Then for the sub sales, we all gathered in the middle school cafeteria and got to work on making over 500 sandwiches! There where different assembly lines set up for each type of sandwich, which made the work go by really fast. This was one of our favorite fundraisers because it gave us a chance to have some fun with the other kids goingon the Alaska trip, before we had even left home.

For the bowling night a few people formed teams and rented out a bowling lane at the Marshall Bowling Alley. We got to serve them pizza and cheer them on while they bowled. But the best part of it was when the groups werefinished, and we got to bowl too!

Both of us have really enjoyed the fundraising this year and look forward to helping the kids going on the trip next year, with their fundraising.

Most of the people that are going to Alaska are pretty much looking forward to the same things, but everyone has a personal interest.

Both of us are looking forward to climbing Mt. Healey. We’re both looking forward to getting to the top of the mountain and feeling the sense of pride and accomplishment. Eating is also a great part of the Alaska experience; I’m really excited to try foods that I’ve never had before! We’re excited for the Midnight Sun baseball game; we’re going to cheer really loud! Even though we have interests in common we do have some differences.

I’m, this is Matt speaking, excited for both the animal and people watching. I’m not creepy or anything, it’s just that I enjoy watching people. They make me laugh and everywhere you go the people are different. The animals in Alaska are like from a completely other planet! I would list them all but there’s so many I don’t know the name of! Well, personally that’s what I’m looking forward to.

Hi, I’m Lauren P! I’m really looking forward to going to Alaska. I don’t really have a specific interest while in Alaska; I’m looking forward to everything! Such as meeting people that have lived in Alaska for all their life. I think that it will be cool to see how they live their life and how much different their livesare from ours. I’ll be excited to come back and share my experiences with the rest of my family! Like we said before, everyone has their own interests while in Alaska, while we all have similar interests, the way we all look at them is completely different. One person may be excited for something that no one else is. No matter how big the differences, I think that it’s safe to say that everyone is excited to go to Alaska!
