Alaskan sunlight painted the mountains, trees, and brush that filled Denali National Park’s landscape; while inside a nearby tour bus, people’s lives paused. Cameras jutted out the bus windows and everyone was still as two large, fuzzy bears munched on whatever they had chosen in the field across from the bus. The bears were a short distance away and required a bit of zoom on your camera to get a good shot. All you could hear during the sighting of the bears was the shutter tone coming from cameras.
After that exciting moment of seeing the bears, the bus ride had a few other sites. We saw plenty of caribou with gargantuan furry antlers laying on slabs of ice and chewing on nearby vegetation, and then we saw a bunny and occasional birds. The fields were coated in gorgeous wildflowers, growing low to the ground in shades of light and dark violet, buttercup yellow, and snow white; all flitting in the gentle breeze.
Mount McKinley was completely visible and absolutely amazing. The top appeared to pierce through the crisp blue sky; while the whole mountain was covered in a fleecy blanket of glittering snow. Overall, the ride through Denali gave me an amazing view of Alaska’s wildlife… I hope to see more of this beauty.
