Day 6

Alexandra Egnatuk

This morning, I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the tent. We ate a simple breakfast consisting of milk and cereal, then we quickly took down the tents, all the while rain kept coming.
By the time every single tent was down and breakfast was cleaned up the rain stopped; we were also ahead of schedule. For that reason we went on a little hike near the campground that went along the Nenana River. At one point the trail circled around and we ended up going around twice rather than once.
When we got back to camp we ate a quick sandwich lunch then we piled into the vans for the drive to Fairbanks. The drive was supposed to take two hours, but because of construction it took four hours. Right as we pulled into the campground it started pouring so my van went shopping for dinner. After we went shopping we came back and started preparing the meal: sliders, chips, and lemonade. It stopped raining while we were making dinner so the others set up the tents.
After dinner we were supposed to have a meeting, but it was cancelled because it started raining again. Everybody used the extra time to take showers, get ready for tomorrow, or catch up on committee work. We’ve almost been in Alaska for a full week and everybody is still excited to be in here.
