Alaska Is

Alaska is…
The clouds on a rainy day. The flies buzz as it passes your ears. A police cars siren as it chases down its poor victim.
Alaska is…
            The butter to the popcorn.
            The pollen to a flower.
            The fog on a mountain.
Alaska is…
The different tents at the Summer Solstice.
The water thrown at you during the Sun Run.
The wind at the top of a mountain.
Alaska is a part of me like I never thought it would be.

Final Reflections

Alaska is what I expected yet nothing like what I expected. Alaska is the place you go to forget where you have been. In Alaska it doesn’t matter who makes it up Mt. Healy or Exit Glacier first. It just matters that everyone makes it. Or that everyone finishes the Midnight Sun Run, in first place or last place. Alaska has taught me things that I cant even put into words, most important though, is how it brought my class of 2016 together. Alaska is where you go to get away, but with part of my class you didn’t go away off to Alaska in isolation. Instead, it was where we went to come together as one. Alaska has become a part of all of us and has helped us grow as individuals and as a group.
