Tim Kelly

Interviewed by Kyle W

During the midnight baseball game I was given the opportunity to interview a man that I met in line of the concessions stand. His name was Tim Kelly and he is the pitching coach for the Fairbanks Gold Panners. He doesn’t pitch anymore, but he enjoys his job helping different teams for over thirty years. Six years at Arizona State, and over twenty in professional baseball such as the Dodgers and the Angels. I asked where he went to high school at and where he lives his life now. He said he went to high school in “Northern California, in the bay area in Santa Clara.” He now lives “outside San Diego in the country” and was born in California. Because he lives in California, he flies out to Fairbanks during the Panners season and stays until its over, but his family stays back home when he comes here for baseball. He once stopped coaching, but was later asked to come out and help the Panners and he couldn’t say no. He says he has a “fun job and really enjoys working with everyone.” I asked what his favorite thing about his job was and he answered, “getting to know the players, hanging out in the ballpark, and its better than having a real job.” I was very fortunate being able to talk to him and meet him.
