Natalie Wilson – Day 7

Day 7

Natalie Wilson

This morning, everyone woke to a sunny sky. After a breakfast of cereal, we headed out to the Museum of the North. It was really interesting; I learned that adult male wolves can weigh between 85 and 115 pounds, with females about 10 pounds less, and that dolls were sometimes used in Eskimo rituals or as a substitute for a person who was gone during a ceremony.
At about 11:40, half of the group headed out to LARS, the Large Animal Research Station. We got to see muskox and reindeer, and I learned the names of different animal parts or fur.
After the demonstration was over, my group went back to the museum to have lunch and go to the University of Alaska Fairbanks bookstore. At the store, there were some UAF t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and stuffed animals. There was some food and school supplies as well, along with novels and cookbooks. I bought a book of funny test answers.
We had a bit of down time after that. We had a dinner of spaghetti with meat sauce in our vans because it was raining so hard. After dinner, the whole group went to a Panners game. They were playing against a team from Michigan, the Lake Erie Monarchs. We had to leave early so we could get to bed, so we didn’t see who won the game. However, before bed we had cupcakes to wish Barb Gary a happy late birthday. Then we went to bed. We have to get our rest for the Midnight Sun Run tomorrow!
